France

Our trip to France

First a little background about myself, I am a 34 year old male from California and love to travel. I always heard great things about Europe but I could never decide on which country to visit. I hate those visit 10 countries in 7 days trips... So I decided on France because of a friend that had visited. We flew Air France from LAX (Lost Angeles) to Paris. The flight took about 12 hours, it was long and very tiring.

The people

My first contact with a French person was on the plan, a very cute and intelligent stewardess, she taught me a few words here and there: 'Merci' for thank you and 'De rien' for you're welcome. When we arrived to the Hotel in Paris we rested for a couple of hours then went out to see the town. The first thing I noticed is that Paris doesn't have a downtown area, there are shops, businesses and homes everywhere you go. I also noticed that there are many dogs, French people love dogs it seems.

Our second contact was with a French waiter at a local 'Bistro' (pub/restaurant) type place. We 'looked' Americans is what the guy said. Must have been the lack of dress shoes. French people wear jeans with dress shoes, it looks good on them, but I don't see myself dressed as such.

I also realized one important thing: French people don't particularly hate Americans, they just hate anyone who isn't French, this should settle any rumors regarding this subject. They even hate you if you're from another town. However most of hem are very educated and have traveled to many other European countries.

Hotels

The hotel we stayed in was very nice, situated on Avenue Kleber in Paris 8eme (Paris is divided into 20 numbered areas). From the Hotel I could see the Eiffel Tower. We actually walked there and took the elevator all the way up. The view was gorgeous.

Les Louvres (The Louvres)

There are many monuments to see in Paris, but I chose to write about the Louvres because it is simply unbelievable! This is a castle that was turned into a museum where the world's most important (and expensive art) is displayed. The Mona Lisa is displayed there and surprisingly it is much smaller than I thought... The Louvres is so large that it would literally take a week to visit the whole thing. Another nice surprise is that we allowed to take pictures

Conclusion

If I had the chance to visit Europe again, I would go back to France and visit Paris as well as other cities. France is one of those countries that might not affect you very much while you're there, mainly because it is so cosmopolitan and not so exotic, but when you come home and get back to you daily routine, you definitely miss it and want to go back again right then! You almost feel an emptiness inside...
