Cheap travel is very possible, by taking the time to do some research, one can plan a very nice trip to wherever he or she chooses at a fraction of the most advertised prices. Here are a few tips that might help you enjoy your trip and save you a lot of cash and headache.

Search for a travel agency that doesn't over charge, you can find many of them online. Look for a 3 star hotel, there is no need to rent a room in a five star hotel since most of the time spent will be outdoors visiting. Plan your trip a few months ahead, this will get a you a cheap ticket, a cheap hotel room and plenty of time to shop around for good prices. Only bring a little cash, most countries will accept credit cards and traveler's checks.

  • Look for a inexpensive 3 star hotel.

  • Plan your trip a few months ahead.

  • Being along everything you might need.

  • Use traveler's checks or credit cards.

The Philippines

Our trip to the Philippines

We took Singapore airlines to go the Philippines. We landed in Singapore or S'pore as they call it and took off again in about 6 hours. The Philippines airport was very crowded, it is a country that has a lot to offer as far as views, islands and Spanish history (the Philippines were a Spanish colony), so a lot of tourists go there every year.

The People

What striked me most about the Philippines is how nice and polite the people are, rich or poor, they are all very very nice people and very helpful. We rode the 'jeepnie'; it is a open-air modified jeep, usually made of shiny aluminum, very decorated with all sorts of amazing paint jobs and signs. Driving around is inexpensive and taxi drivers don't try to rip you off as many do in other countries when they know you're a tourist. Most people in the Philippines speak enough English to help you get where you need to go and have a nice conversation.

Hotels

We stayed in the Shangri-La hotel and the Holiday-Inn. The first was very luxurious, many westerners stay there. The Holiday-Inn is where we had more fun actually. They had singing and dancing shows every night, an excellent buffet, it is also located in a great area almost in the middle of everything that needs to be seen.

Places

We visit many beautiful old churches built by the Spanish, the architecture is simply amazing. There are malls and some good shopping centers. Mega mall is considered one of the world's largest malls.

We also visited some islands, the views are simply breathtaking. Huge forests, beaches and winding roads going up mountains.

In conclusion, it is a great country with a lot to see. If you are the adventurer type that likes to meet people from a different culture, this is the place for you.
